FRIDAY
10 en SATURDAY 11 FEBRUARY 2006
Collaborating since 1998,
Kunstencentrum BELGIE and Fat Cat organized several cutting
edge events =under the Open Circuit banner, introducing
electronic music in a completely new setting by artists
like Fennesz, Gescom (1/2 Autechre), VV/m, Pita, Janek
Schaeffer and many more. Having extended the Fat Cat roster
far beyond electronic music only over the last couple
of years with a host of adventurous artists like Mum,
Sigur Ros, Vashti Bunyan, Animal Collective, Black Dice...
the label became an important player on the international
music scene.
How adventurous the Fat Cat label still is and how far
the Fat Cat network delves into an international pool
of awe-inspiring bands and artists you can witness during
the 2 day Open Circuit:Fat Cat event. Unique collaborations
and exclusive concerts will make this opening festival
of the second Shots cultural weekend of Hasselt an event
not to be missed.
Following the success
of our past 3 events there, we can confirm news of a forthcoming
FatCat mini-festival event at the amazing Kunstencentrum
BELGIE venue in Hasselt, Belgium. Unlike the previous
shows we've organised there, this time the event will
take place over the course of two nights - Friday 10 and
Saturday 11 February, 2006 - and is the most ambitious
and varied show yet.
There will be sets from a large number of FatCat artists
and friends, including Vashti Bunyan's first European
show since 1968, plus a rare excursion to Belgium for
improvised music pioneers AMM. There will also be sets
from pianist / composer Max Richter; laptop noise meddlers
Antenna Farm, electronica from Japan's Aoki Takamasa +
Tujiko Noriko, and Com.a; post-rock brilliance from Austria's
Radian; beautiful out-folk meanderings from The Ivytree;
gritty US hiphop noiseniks Food For Animals; improvised
inspiration from the UK's Vibracathedral Orchestra and
Finland's Kemialliset Ystävät; plus a DJ set
from Múm's Orvar and Gunni (who will also do a
live collaboration with Kemialliset).

SHOTS With confirmation awaited from a further few artists,
there will also be a number of sets where some of the
above artists will perform improvised collaborations together
for the first time. The showas will take place in a number
of different rooms within the venue (a former radiator
factory), and there will also be a cinema room and installations.
All in all, it should be an amazing event.
